Photos From the Edge
It’s a major accomplishment just taking on the extreme outdoors and returning home safely to tell the tale — making the idea of bringing back spectacular photos more difficult than ever. Develop your mindset to avoid forgetting to take photos while you’re “in the moment,” and use the camera in a way that brings the adventure back home. Dan and Pete will show you some inspiring photos of trips they’ve taken, and you’ll see why these pictures made their adventures even more rewarding.
Back to the Not-So-Basics
When photographing from within your self-propelled journey, the luxury of perfect lighting isn’t always an option. Discover how to negotiate tough terrain and weather by using proper planning and technique, and reinforce your basic skills so that you can minimize the guesswork. Learn what compositional rules to follow — or break — to improve your images, how to set the camera in crazy conditions, and which lens will best capture your outdoor environment.
Get In Gear
Should you take the expensive specialty camera, or a few cheaper multi-use cameras? Choosing what to bring with you when traveling far from civilization can be a challenge — it’s hard to know what you will need and what will just weigh you down. When miles from the nearest electrical outlet, the decisions you’ve made at home can really change the outcome of your photos. Finding the camera bags, straps, and other gear that will make your experience on the edge easier can be critical to successful photography. Also, extreme conditions may require intense physical conditioning and appropriate clothing apparel. Learn how to prepare yourself ahead of time to prevent disaster in the field.
How to Not Break Your Camera — A Case Study on Extreme Gear
Let Pete show you how he manages to keep his camera close at hand — whether he’s kayaking through the South Pacific or along the coast of Africa! Keep lenses from fogging up in cold or humid environments and use underwater housing above water by learning our experts’ trade secrets.
Stunning Scenery
Stow away with our presenters as they take you along on some of their most memorable photo pursuits — trips that were crafted to generate breathtaking photography in the midst of high adventure. Experience photos from some amazing adventures, such as skiing the last degree to the North Pole, hanging from a rope with a camera in hand, riding in a historic biplane across the African continent, biking across Iowa, trekking to the outer reaches of Southeast Asia, climbing the Matterhorn, and viewing the French landscape from atop Mount Blanc.
